Writings: Something Magical

Sitting on my bed at night, I loved how the moonlight lit up my notebook. I felt some glitter in the moonlight and touched it eagerly, moonlight was cool and lovely. There was something special which dragged me outta my bed. I closed my diary stepped out of my bed and walked towards the backyard barefooted. As I entered the backyard the cold grass crisped beneath my feet, cold dew drops soothed my mind and i felt a fresh wave inside my body which made me perfectly happy. I sat on the bench and started staring the sky which was like a crystal light. Lovely and enchanting.

The purple velvet of sky and silver lining of the moonlight worked perfectly together with a magical dust of star’s glitter sprinkled all over. It seemed as if fairies are having some royal event tonight..I was lost in this incredible night view when something sat on my nose it was like a little lantern that lit up my face in the dark night, i gently held it in my hand and gave that firefly a gentle blow that firefly flew up in the air and joined his fellow fireflies.. they were like small lanterns flying up in the air dancing beautifully. Different insect and bugs were creating sounds which together made a mellow lullaby.. I was moving my feet back and forth in amazement, I was in love with the night...

I was wondering why I never saw this heavenly view before. We are so busy with our robotic lives that we have no time to stop and stare for a while. God had created a beautiful world for us but no one has captured the enchantment of darkness and its eternally reigning queen; the night. Our fantastic civilization has fallen out of touch with many aspects of nature in fact it is full of people who have not the slightest notion of the character or the poetry of night and who have never even seen night. Yet to live thus, to know only artificial night, is as absurd and evil as to know only artificial day. Night is very beautiful  It is the true other half of the day’s tremendous wheel; no lights without meaning stab or trouble it; it is beauty, it is fulfillment, it is rest. Thin clouds float in these heavens, the Milky Way bridges earth and sky…

Night is a time when you can relax, think and wonder. It is not only about sleeping and dreaming but there is something more than that… Something magical.

2018 Pakistan: Dogs and Poor People Are Not Allowed

The harsh reality of Quaid’s Pakistan

Define poverty

Close your eyes. Breath. Take yourself back to that one time when, even after all the blood and sweat you put in, you couldn’t grasp what you deserved. Open your eyes, laugh it off, it was just that one time. You don’t really have to live like that everyday for that kind of life is reserved for the poor.

Unemployment, starvation, and restlessness aren’t the foundation of poverty. It’s the very perpetual cycle you face: the unfair measures, believing the deceiving promises, voting, and ending up disappointed that makes you poor. It’s the very reality you live in: being asked to climb ten stairs when the privileged would only climb five is what makes you poor.

Being poor, in Pakistan and pretty much everywhere else, essentially means you’re not good enough. Warren Buffet, the world’s fourth wealthiest man, understood this phenomenon long before anyone as much as whispered about it when he said:

“There’s been class warfare going on for the last 20 years and my class won”

“warfare” between the rich and the talented. A “warfare” between the privileged and the skillful. A “warfare” among men and the beasts of nation.

Pakistan’s own “warfare”

Pakistan, the world’s bravest democracy, is yet to move past this “warfare.” As of 2010 World Bank’s report, “about 40 percent of the total population was living below the poverty line.” And although millions of dollars are allocated to welfare programs such as Benazir Income Support Program, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, Zakat Fund, and Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, there has been little progress in successfully taming the evils of poverty for good.

One of the major reasons why we, as a nation, have failed to contain poverty is because of unparalleled corruption in almost every department, furthermore, the irresponsible and laid-back patterns of behavior we follow only add to the problem. Everyone is status-conscious, everyone wants to win the invisible and much worthless race against each other, and everyone thinks they’re above the law and constitution of the country. No one seems to pay any mind to the real problem of poverty and privilege. The government, too, makes no effort whatsoever to address this concerning issue. Economical problems are on the rise, furthermore, there are no policies to regulate the financial and academical structures of private school, which, unsurprisingly, are affordable for the rich only. As a result of all this, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer (this concept is called the Trickle Down Affect in the studies of Sociology.)

The solution

Although there are no right or wrong solutions, in my opinion, minimum wage should be implemented so that everyone is paid just enough. This would greatly reduce the income divide between the rich and the poor, which would further result in the reduction of inequality and injustice among masses.

Improving the living standards of the poor by providing them with basic necessities like proper health care and education would help curb this problem.

Education plays a vital role in this problem as education creates vision and awareness. When the poor will be educated they would become capable and have a range of opportunities to earn and ultimately come out of the poverty cycle. The differences in education (government and private institutions) should be addressed in the provincial and federal assemblies, moreover, laws and regulations should be implemented on the fee structure of private schools and colleges to make them affordable for the less fortunate.

Awareness, furthermore, would play a vital role to contain poverty and injustice. If one is not even acquainted to his own social and economical rights then how can he possibly safeguard himself from the infinite unfair measures present in Pakistan in forms of feudalism and traditional politics? Awareness creates knowledge, and that knowledge can be utilized to increase the bargaining power of the poor in courts and governments so that there would be fairer decisions. Anti-poverty programs should be held in rural and urban areas and weekly or monthly debates discussing the aforementioned subjects should run on national radio and television.

If poverty is not eradicated or at least contained then the wealth gaps would continue to widen. Gradually, our country would have no option but to kneel down to the growing problems. As explained above, we have many possible ways to contain poverty, moreover, put a lease on inequality and injustice. We have to take a stand now before it’s too late.

Finsta, gossip, and the deluded virgins

Social media has expeditiously come to shape an essential part of our lives, so much so that it reflects a sense of authenticity, confidence, and prominence of our routine. The preeminent reasoning, however, remains the perpetual need to reflect ones – better – self before the ever-green world of family, friends, and promising acquaintances.

What is a “Finsta” and how did it come into being?

It’s no mystery, really, how Pakistani parents can come out as predominant. Hardly a day goes on without a rant, or many, and it can become onerous to cope up with such nature, rather the environment, quickly turning toxic. And so, in this endless strife for domestic hierarchy, the only logical escape seems to be a rather simple one – social media.

Not so long ago, iPad wielding force, teens independently occupied the open channels of social media. Chronicles of debauchery, sexy outfits, best-dinners-ever, hookups, breakups, rants, road trips, beach days and everything in between were documented by a plethora of openly and unabashedly flaunted pictures and videos. So what changed? How come we don’t see too many thoroughly irresponsible posts anymore?

Well, the answer is quite simple – because of the fear of constant monitoring. As more parents began “friending” and “following” and “posting,” so too declined the allure of these channels for teens; the platforms once synonymous with freedom, became constrained by oversight. Teenagers faced a choice: quit social media or evolve. They chose evolution in the form of what is now known as Finsta.

A Finsta is a fake (or second) Instagram account, primarily used to hide scandalous and overtly sexual behavior, cultivate an alter ego, and function with anonymity to troll peers.

The birth of the Finsta can be traced to the time period between the generational hijacking of Facebook and Instagram and the generational adoption of SnapChat. While the Finsta phenomenon is old news to teenagers, it continues to wreak havoc on their lives and create disruption in schools. Regardless, teenagers can’t seem to shake the Finsta. Originally born from the desire to carve out a space free from nosy parents, Finstas have morphed into a malicious animal capable of reducing even the most well-adjusted and mentally healthy teens to rubble.

The introduction to deluded virgins and wannabe Christian Greys

Let’s just begin who Christian Grey is. In much of the last decade, Hollywood has produced a number of failed projects but Taylor-Johnson’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” tops the list with an absolute majority. The main character, Christian Grey, a sadist-rich-playboy embarks on an odyssey with an implausible – rather reprimand – storyline or structure. Long story short, women found themselves going gaga over Mr. Grey. Why? Because women tend to fall for assholes and then drink the regret away.

In an attempt to depict the dashing playboy Christian Grey, (especially) Pakistani men end up portraying Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi, posing in awkward structures with grammatically horrible captions (i.e. “If I don’t got you, I got nobody”) to rather illogical ones (i.e. “I’m moving up and you’re over now.) Captions aside, what separates these bad boys from rest of the school is their raging affinity with what we like to describe as “the deluded virgins.”

The virtual reality of Finsta is dominated by women, strong and independent, in possession of Instagram handles/usernames rather sexually explicit or suggestive and somehow weaving in the creator’s actual name. Finsta handles/usernames tend to be elusive enough to escape detection of searches by parents or schools, but obvious enough to be known by their peers.

If I may start by describing women in general, I’d rather tell a short story – In ancient Greece, a man was accused and charged of murder and thus sentenced to death. The King, an intellectual, promised to pardon him if only the accused can tell him something he will not believe.
To this the accused jumped up and said: “I have seen a giant, as tall as the sky coming to destroy your kingdom.”
The King let out an unimpressed groan and said: “Believable.”
The accused then said: “I killed a thousand Persians with one hand.”
“Sure.” The King replied, unmoved.
The accused sighed and then said: “Pardon me lord, but once, I slept with your wife.”
To this the King let out a laugh and said: “I could believe that.”
Finally, the accused sits himself down, chugs down a glass of wine, and starts: “I saw three women, sitting under a tree, all quiet.”
And so, it’s useless to mention that the accused lived happily ever after.

Talking. Women love to talk and Finsta is just the foundation they had been seeking. All in all, it’s perfectly pleasant to express oneself rather limited to some specific people than the general public. What isn’t fair, however, is to target other “generically happy” committed women, who like to mind their own businesses. And cyber-bullying while sitting behind a screen, with their reclusive – rather lonely – personalities, meaningless lives, and so much so a plastic projected life.

These women find themselves so dissolved in their made-up lives that they forget who they actually are: failures, loners, liars, and undoubtedly virgins.

If you’re one of these deluded virgins, then you must try to understand that high-school will end one day and this temporary fame that you’ve acquainted yourself with will fade away just like the very opportunity of good education, slowly drifting away into complete abyss.
